Morning & Evening Devotional Reading–

November 26– Morning

by C. H. Spurgeon, revised and edited by W. C. Neff

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”

“Whatever your hand finds to do,” refers to actions that are possible. There are many things that our heart finds to do that we will never get done. It’s good for them to be in our heart, but, if we’re to become useful, we can’t be content with mere thinking or talking; we must DO them in real life.

One good deed is worth more than a thousand brilliant theories. Let’s not wait for “large opportunities” or for a different kind of work, but let’s do the things we find all around us each day. We have no other time in which to live. The past is gone; the future hasn’t yet arrived; we have no time but the present, so don’t wait until you grow old before you attempt to serve God. Bear fruit NOW.

Serve God now, and be careful to go about it in the right way. “Do it with all your might.” Do it promptly; don’t fritter away your life in thinking of what you intend to do tomorrow as if that could make up for your idleness today. No man ever served God by doing things tomorrow. Whatever you do for Christ, throw your whole soul into it. Don’t give Christ a little “slurred labor” now and then; serve him with all your heart, soul, and strength.

But where is the might of a Christian? It is not in himself, for he is truly weak. His might lies in the Lord of heaven’s armies. So, let’s seek his help; let’s proceed with prayer and faith, waiting upon the Lord for his blessing. What we do in this way will be done well and will not fail in its effect. [M&E]
