Morning & Evening Devotional Reading–
March 26– Evening
by C. H. Spurgeon, revised and edited by W. C. Neff
“When [the Son of Man] comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
—Mark 8:38
If we have been partakers with Jesus in his shame, we will be sharers with him in the luster which will surround him when he appears again in glory. Dear reader, are you with Christ Jesus? Does a vital union knit you to him? Then you are today with him in his shame; you have taken up his cross and gone with him outside the camp bearing his scorn by others. But you will no doubt be with him when the cross is exchanged for the crown.
But judge yourself soberly this evening; for if you are not with him in the new creation, neither will you be with him when he comes in his glory. If you turn back from the dark side of communion with him, you will not experience the bright and happy time when the King comes and all his holy angels with him.
Notice that the angels will come with him, but he is not coming for them; no, he is coming to take up the descendants of Abraham. The holy angels are with him, but he is coming for the one he loves; he is coming for his bride. If his friends and his neighbors are called together to see his glory, how much more will you, who are married to him, be with him? You will not be distant. The coming of Christ will be a day of judgment for many, and he will partner with angels to bring destruction. But he has called you into union with him. His own lips have declared, “I am married unto you, and my delight is in you!” If the angels, who are but friends and neighbors, will be with him when he comes, it is abundantly certain that his own beloved wife will be near him, sitting at his right hand.
Here is a morning star of hope for you of such exceeding brilliance that it will light up even the darkest and most desolate night. [M&E]
