[David said to the man his soldiers had found,] “To whom do you belong?”
—1 Samuel 30:13
No neutralities can exist in religion. We are either ranked under the banner of Prince Immanuel to serve and fight his battles, or we are vassals of the black prince, Satan. “To whom do you belong?”
Dear reader, let me assist you in your response. Let me ask you: have you been born again? If you have, you belong to Christ, but, without the new birth, you cannot be his. In whom are you trusting? Those who believe in Jesus are the sons of God. Whose work are you doing? If you are serving your master, then you are owned by your lord. What company do you keep? If you belong to Jesus, do you associate with those who carry the cross? Birds of a feather do, indeed, flock together. What is your conversation like? Is it heavenly, or earthly? What have you learned of your Master? Servants, like good apprentices, learn much from their masters. If you have served with Jesus, people will notice of you, like they did of Peter and John, that “They had been with Jesus.”
Let me press the question once more: “To whom do you belong?” Answer honestly before you give sleep to your eyes. If you are not Christ’s, then you are living in difficulty. Run away from your cruel master! Enter into the service of the Lord of Love, and you will enjoy a life of true happiness.
If you do belong to Christ, then let me advise you to do these four things. First, obey him. Let his word be your law; let his wish be your will. Secondly, love him. Let your heart embrace him. Let your whole soul be filled with him. Thirdly, if you belong to God, then trust him. Don’t rest anywhere else but on him. And fourthly, if you belong to him, then be decidedly for him. If you live like this, you and everyone around you will know to whom you belong. [M&E]
