“There is reserved for me a crown of righteousness.” 

—2 Timothy 4:8

 

Do you ever fear that you won’t get to Heaven? Dear Christian, don’t be afraid! The people of God will enter in.

I love the story of a dying man who exclaimed, “I have no fear of going home; I have sent everything before me; God’s finger is on the latch of my door, and I am ready to enter.” “But,” someone said to him, “aren’t you afraid that you may miss out on your inheritance?” And he said, “No, there is one crown in heaven that will fit no head but mine. There is one throne in heaven that even the apostle Paul could not fill; it was made for me, and I will have it.” If you belong to Christ, then rejoice in this thought! Your possession is secure; there remains a place of rest for you.

“But,” you may ask, “can’t I lose it?” No, it has been secured for you. If I am a child of God, I will not lose it. It is mine as securely as if I were already there. Be assured that if you could fly over the Promised Land to survey it, you would find a mansion already inscribed with your name.

Stop your doubting! Instead, behold your lovely inheritance; it is yours! If you believe in the Lord Jesus, if you have turned from your sin, if you have been renewed in heart, then you are one of the Lord’s people, and there is a place reserved for you— a crown reserved for you, and you will soon have it. There will be no vacant thrones in glory when all the chosen are gathered in. [M&E]
