“All things are possible to the one who believes.”
—Mark 9:23
Many professing Christians are always doubting and fearing, and they sadly think this is the normal state of believers. This is a mistake, for “all things are possible to the one who believes.” And it is possible for us to develop a mind in which doubt and fear can become like mere birds that fly quickly by the windows of our souls instead of lingering there.
When you read of the sweet communion with Christ many saints have had throughout history, you sigh and think in your heart, “Unfortunately, these are not for me.” But if you have simple faith, you will continue your climb and you will yet stand upon the mountaintop, for “all things are possible to the one who believes.”
You hear of exploits which holy men have done for Jesus– what they have enjoyed of him, how much they have been like him, and how they endured great persecutions for his sake. And you say, “But, I am just a worm; I can never attain to this.” But there is nothing that any saint ever was that you may not be. There is no elevation of grace, no attainment of spirituality, no clarity of assurance which is not open to you, if you simply believe.
So, lay aside your sackcloth and ashes, and rise to the dignity of your true position! You are little in Israel because you will it to be so, not because it must be so. It is not right that thou should grovel in the dust, O child of the King. Rise up! The golden throne of assurance is waiting for you! The crown of communion with Jesus is ready to be placed on your head. Wrap yourself in scarlet and fine linen. Let your soul eat the King’s bread and be satisfied as with royal food. Harvest the golden crops of grace, for they await you in the fields of faith. “All things are possible to the one who believes.” [M&E]
