“God, even our own God…” 

—Psalm 67:6

 

It is strange how little use we make of the spiritual blessings that God gives to us, but it is even stranger still how little use we make of God himself. Even though he is “our own God,” we do not apply ourselves to him as we should, and we ask very little of him. For instance, how seldom do we ask for his wise counsel? How often we go about our business without seeking his guidance! In our troubles we too often bear our own burdens instead of casting them upon the Lord. It is not because we are not allowed to go to him, for the Lord tells us to come freely. It is our own fault if we do not seize the riches of our God. He is our treasure, and we can go to him and take whatever we need; all that we can possibly want is there.

And when you go, learn the divine skill of making God your everything. He can supply you with everything, or, better still, he can be your everything.

Today, let me urge you to make use of your God. Make use of him in prayer; go to him often, and tell him all your needs. If you are going through a dark situation, let God be your sunshine. If some strong enemy is defeating you, find in Jehovah a “shield,” for he is a shield to his people. If you have lost your way in the mazes of life, use him as a “guide,” for he will direct you.

Whatever you are and wherever you are, remember that God is just what you want and just where you want, and that he can do all you want. [M&E]
