“Filled with the Holy Spirit.”
—Acts 2:4
Today’s blessings would be quite rich if all of us were filled with the Holy Spirit. The results of this sacred filling of the soul are impossible to overestimate. Life, comfort, light, purity, power, peace, and many other precious blessings are inseparable from the Spirit’s presence.
Like sacred oil the Spirit of God anoints ours heads, sets us apart to a holy priesthood, and gives us grace to carry out our duties the way we should. As the only truly purifying water, He cleanses us from the power of sin, and sets us apart to live holy lives unto Him. As the world’s only light, He shows us our lost condition, and reveals the Lord Jesus to us (and in us), and guides us in the way of righteousness which is the light of the Lord. As heavenly dew He waters our dry ground and fertilizes our lives. O that He would rain upon us today.
Like a dove with wings of peaceful love He broods over His Church and over the souls of believers, and as a Comforter He dispels the cares and doubts that destroy the peace of those He loves. Within His chosen ones He creates a confidence in their own adoption as sons, so that they cry out to their Father with tender love. Like the wind, He brings the breath of life to men, blowing wherever He wants, causing the dead spirits of men to come alive to join the New Creation.
O, that God would allow us to feel His presence today and every day. [M&E]
