Morning & Evening Daily Devotional Reading– January 6
by Charles H. Spurgeon, Revised and Edited by William C. Neff
“Throw all of your cares upon (God); because He cares for you.”
—I Peter 5:7
Knowing that God cares for us is the best way to soothe our troubled minds. Dear Christian, don’t dishonor God by always wearing a brow of care; come, and cast your burden upon your Lord. You are staggering beneath a weight that your Father would not feel. What seems to you a crushing burden is to Him like a small piece of dust of the balance. Nothing is so sweet as to “rest in God’s hands and to know no will but His.”
Are you suffering today! O, be patient; God has not passed over you in His meticulous care. The One who feeds the sparrows will also supply you with what you need. Don’t sit down in despair, but continue to hope forever. Take up the arms of faith against a sea of trouble, and it will become calm.
There is One who cares for you. His eye is fixed on you. His heart beats with compassion for your trouble, and his all-powerful hand will yet bring you the help you need. The darkest cloud will scatter itself in showers of mercy. The blackest gloom will give way to the morning. If you belong to Him, He will bind up your wounds and heal your broken heart. Don’t doubt His grace because of your troubles, but believe that He loves you just as much in seasons of trouble as in times of happiness. If God cares for you, why should you care too?
Come. Be done with worry, and leave all your concerns in the hands of a gracious God. [M&E]
