Morning & Evening Daily Devotional Reading– February 7

“Arise and depart.”

—Micah 2:10

The hour is coming when the message will come to us as it comes to us all–“Arise, and leave the home in which you have lived, from the city in which you have done your business, from your family and friends; arise, and take your last journey.” And what do we know about this journey or of the place to which we are headed?

We have read a little about it, and perhaps we have been given insights from the Holy Spirit; but how little we know about the future! We know that there is a black and stormy river called “Death.” God tells us to cross it, promising to be with us. But, after death, what comes next? What world of wonder will become known to us? No traveler has ever returned to tell. But we know enough about our heavenly home to make us look forward to going there with joy.

The journey of death may be dark, but we can travel without fear, knowing that God is with us. We will be leaving behind all we have known and loved here, but we will go to our Father’s house where Jesus is– to that royal “city that has foundations whose builder and maker is God.” We will live forever with Him whom we love in the middle of His people in the very presence of God.

Christian, meditate a lot on heaven; it will help you to press on and to forget the tedious work along the way. This vale of tears is but the pathway to the better country; this world of trouble is but the stepping stone to a world of bliss. [M&E]
