—I Corinthians 5:28

Walk the streets by moonlight, if you dare, when the night is dark and the wind is howling, and you will find sinners. Go to the jail and walk through the wards, and notice those with heavy, over-hanging brows– men that you wouldn’t like to meet at night– and you will find sinners there. Go wherever you will; you won’t need to ransack the earth to find sinners, for they are common enough; you may find them in every lane and street of every city, town, and village.

It is for such that Jesus died. If you select even the grossest specimen of humanity, I will still have hope for him—not because of the man himself, but because Jesus Christ has come to seek and to save sinners. God’s electing love has selected some of the worst to be made the very best. Pebbles from the brook of grace can be turned into jewels for the royal crown. Effectual grace calls many of the vilest of the vile to sit at the table of mercy, and, therefore, let no one despair.

Dear sinner, don’t turn away from Jesus’ love, a love that looks out through tearful eyes, a love that pours out from bleeding wounds– that faithful love, that strong love, that pure love that remains with you always. Don’t turn away from it as though it were nothing to you; but believe on Him, embrace Him, and you will be saved. Trust your soul with Him and He will bring you to His Father’s right hand in everlasting glory. [M&E]
